Launching New Name & Mascot

According to Mercado (2012), marketers need to find creative ways to incorporate their new logos within their new promotions. The launching of your new team name and mascot should be treated like a party. It has to be celebrated and made into an event that way there will be excitement in your school, community and locker rooms about your changes. Hosting summer tournaments announcing your new school mascot and team names. Having Fall, Winter and Spring sports jamborees and multi-sport triple headers will help form a bond and build school pride in their new look and image.

New jerseys, colors and equipment will help buzz and expectation of winning. According to Mercado (2012), change needs to be gradual and well thought out because rushing things may cause you to not properly market your change or be under funded for your change. You want to welcome this energy and face it head on. You also have a chance to invite alumni to join in your celebrations and reconnect with their school since their mascot has now changed as well.

While some schools may make a complete makeover, others may just change some imagery or get rid of a particular mascot. These changes should be equally celebrated and marketed as well. Some teams professionally and collegiately have made small changes but they made a huge impact. According to Spindel (2005), the ceremony launching one mascot and putting another to rest can be a great sign of respect and a showing cellebration of change.
